As part of the Cornerstones Campaign led by Dr. Soyeon Shim, Director of the Norton School, numerous community benefactors have provided funds for faculty offices and research facilities for The McClelland Institute space at McClelland Park. McClelland Park is the future home of the Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences and also the Institute for Children, Youth and Families. The generous donations given by these donors will help build the capacity of the The McClelland Institute to to promote cutting edge research and program evaluation important for the positive growth and development of children, youth and families. John W. and Ruth C. Dyer Observation Room
Ruth Dyer is one of our long-time alumna having graduated in 1940. Faculty and students will use the Dyer Oberservation
Room for both educational and research purposes as they observe children and families as they interact.
Betty and Hamilton McRae are "Friends of the The McClelland Institute Observation Lab"
Betty and Hamilton McRae are currently helping to build research capacity for the The McClelland Institute. Their donation will contribute
to enhancing the Observation Laboratory.
Kay and Sean Kim Faculty Office for the John and Doris Norton Fathers, Parenting and Families Endowed Chair
The Kim family is a long-term, close friend of the University of Arizona. This office, located within the The McClelland Institute, will
provide close proximity for the Norton Endowed Chair to The McClelland Institute research facilities.
Janet and Barry Lang Observation Laboratory
Janet Lang is a former student of Victor Christopherson (Professor Emeritus) and taught child development courses for
the Division of Child and Family Studies (now Family Studies and Human Development). The laboratory will provide
researchers the opportunity to observe actual behaviors, including interaction among couples as well as parents and
children. This laboratory will enhance our ability to generate research funds as well as enhance our methods for
collecting information.
Beverly Mitchell Faculty Office
Beverly Mitchell graduated from the UA with a bachelor's degree in Clothing and Textiles. She later went on the get a
Ph.D. in Psychiatry and is currently practicing in California. This office will provide office space for a faculty
conducting research with the The McClelland Institute.
David C. Rowe Research Control Room
Dr. Rowe came to the University of Arizona in 1988. David was a leader in the field of evolutionary biology and was persistent
in his search to understand the interplay of genetics, biology, and social interaction and their relative contribution to
development. In 2002 the University of Arizona recognized him with the prestigious Extraordinary Faculty Award. Dr. Rowe
passed away in 2003.
Jon and Tammy Underwood are "Friends of The McClelland Institute Observation Lab"
Jon and Tammy Underwood are University of Arizona graduates who have served on numerous boards, chaired events, led
committees, and are currently helping to build research capacity for the The McClelland Institute. Their donation will contribute to
enhancing the Observation Laboratory.
